Tod’s to build manufacturing plant in earthquake-hit region

Luxury group Tod’s has announced it will provide funding to build a manufacturing centre in Arquata del Tronto, the Italian district hit by a 6.2 magnitude earthquake in August.

The announcement was made by Tod’s CEO Diego Della Valle during a visit to the company’s headquarters by Italian Prime Minister Matteo Renzi.

The Marche region, of which Arquata del Tronto is a part, was a history of footwear manufacturing. Tod’s already operates a plant in the region’s Comunanza district.

It is hoped that the plant will be operational within a year; its location has already been selected. It will produce footwear for the Tod’s brand. The company plans to employ young workers from the city and surrounding area after training them at its Comunanza plant.
