Footwear giant Stella to close Dongguan factory
A report on the China Leather Industry Association website suggests shoe manufacturer Stella International is closing its facility in Dongguan city, with the loss of 10,000 workers.
It said it the facility mainly made ladies shoes for companies such as Nike, Prada and Rockport, but rising wages led to a 50% fall in profits last year, according to an announcement from the Taiwanese company.
It said other manufacturers had moved production to facilities elsewhere in Asia where wages are lower.
