Taiwanese shoemaker takes on luxury brands
16/07/2013
The Taiwan-based shoemaker makes products for Prada and Givenchy among others and has 400 stores in China. Its first European store in Paris specialises in women’s shoes priced between EUR 250 and EUR 600, about a third the cost of a pair of Prada pumps. After years of manufacturing for luxury brands, it wants to leverage the experience to design and produce shoes under its own brands.
“We want to be an international brand,” Stephen Chi, CEO of the company’s women’s footwear and retail business division, told Bloomberg. “We want to build a global platform and bring affordable luxury for women around the world.”
Manufacturing accounted for the bulk of its business, or about 92% of its $1.55 billion revenue in 2012.
Stella also manufactures for footwear companies such as Clarks, Ecco, Rockport and Timberland.
