TFL opens Spanish lab to service growing footwear sector
Chemicals group TFL is opening a laboratory in the Spanish footwear-making city of Elche to service local tanneries.
Both the Spanish and Portuguese footwear industries have reported double-digit annual growth last year, driven by export-focused policies and brands choosing to locate close to tanneries and skilled workers.
The Iberian Peninsula, with 111 tanneries in Spain and 60 in Portugal, produces more than 50 million square metres of leather valued at €600 million per year.
TFL said in a statement: “We are supporting emerging regions where we believe the leather sector has considerable potential of growth. With this new hub, TFL further invests in this region and wants to give an excellent technological service to all its business partners.”
The company will celebrate the inauguration of the lab in Elche Parque Empresarial, Alicante, between May 12 and 14 with several activities including a ‘Latest innovations and eco-friendly technologies meet fashion’ event.
