Momad Metrópolis fails to satisfy shoe firms

Spain’s footwear manufacturers have said the Momad Metrópolis exhibition in Madrid, which this year ended on February 10, will have to change if it is to continue to secure their support.

Figures show that more Spanish footwear companies will exhibit at Micam in Milan (February 15-18) than in Madrid. Spanish brands made up 85 of the 130 firms that took part in Momad Metrópolis, while around 200 will have a presence at Micam.

National footwear industry association FICE said that the set-up at Momad Metrópolis, at which textile and accessory companies also exhibit, did footwear firms no favours because it meant there was less emphasis on footwear at the event.

FICE is to gather reaction to Momad Metrópolis from its member companies and discuss everything from dates to the size and layout of stands with Ifema, the company that hosts the event. FICE has not ruled out the return of a footwear only exhibition in Madrid, which the predecessor to Momad Metrópolis, Modacalzado, was, but it has said the organisers would have a lot of catching up to do to convince footwear companies that have drifted away to return, along with some new exhibitors.

Early consensus among Spain’s footwear companies is that they would prefer to continue to work with Ifema and under the Momad Metrópolis umbrella, but with improvements.
