Tata shows support for Made in India drive

Representatives of Tata International (TIL), the leather division of Indian conglomerate Tata, took part in a discussion at the India Shoes and Accessories Forum in Mumbai to discuss the Indian prime Minister’s Made in India drive.

N Mohan, head of leather products at TIL and a member of India’s Council of Leather Exports, discussed how the group was contributing, with a new factory being built to make high-end leather shoes near Chennai, with a capacity of 2 million shoes per year.

TIL’s new brand Aerosoles launched its latest collection at the fair, where Jorge Roza De Oliveira, ambassador of portugal in India, praised the group for investing in Portuguese firm Move-On Shoes in 2011. “India has been a great partner of Portugal in the shoe manufacturing business as it provides tremendous retailing opportunities,” he said.

Tata aims to increase footwear production from 6.5 million pairs to between 10 and 11 million pairs over the next three years, growing revenue from the current €116 million to €235 million.
