The new unit will involve an initial investment of around $4 million and will have an annual production capacity of two million pairs, which would give the group a total footwear production capacity of around 8.5 million pairs a year.
Tata International runs a tannery and a footwear factory in Dewas in the Indian state of Madhya Pradesh, as well as three existing facilities in the region around Chennai. In addition, it acquired a controlling stake in Portuguese footwear group Move On in 2011.
By increasing its production capacity at existing factories, Tata International has said it aims to make 10 million pairs of shoes per year by 2017.
