Positive signals from Italian visitors to Micam

Italy-based footwear show Micam, which took place in Milan from February 15 to 18, attracted 32,100 visitors, 15,700 of which came from outside Italy.

Micam president Cleto Sagripanti said the increase in domestic visitors was a good sign for the recovery of the industry.

“Positive signals came from the Italian buyers who visited the event to finalise orders: Italian visitors exceeded non-Italian ones this year, for the first time since September 2011. The markets in Russia and the surrounding area were clearly in difficulty, with a sharp drop in Russian and Ukrainian visitors, falling almost by half.

"Beyond the numbers, a message of cautious optimism was conveyed by the show and its 1,516 exhibitors, who continue to value this event and confirm their trust with every new edition."

The show attractive a high number of buyers from Spain, and delegations from South East Asia.

The event was affected by clashes with other fashion events in Europe. “The priority for will be to work with the other trade fairs and the main fashion events towards harmonising the international calendar,” added Mr Sagripanti.
