The president of Italian footwear manufacturers’ association Assocalzaturifici, Cleto Sagripanti, has given his backing to a new project to give a boost to the Made in Italy label.

Deputy minister for economic development, Carlo Calenda, launched the new initiative at the start of 2015. On January 15, Cleto Sagripanti issued a statement saying Assocalzaturifici gave its full support to the project.

Mr Sagripanti said that the project’s commitment to promote exhibitions was of particular interest to him and his organisation’s member companies. Assocalzaturifici is the organiser of Micam in Milan, Micam Shanghai and a number of smaller promotional events in many parts of the world. The Assocalzaturifici president said events of this kind are “true showcases of Italian excellence worldwide”.

One of the measures the deputy minister is putting place is funding mechanisms to provide support for Micam and other events.

Cleto Sagripanti said: “We are fully in line with the deputy minister in stressing the need to create a system for reinforcing overseas investments in Italian fashion, an effort that Assocalzaturifici has been pursuing for many years for the footwear sector with a full schedule of trade fairs throughout the world.”
