To mark International Museum Day on May 18, which this year celebrated “the power of museums”, China’s Shoe Culture Museum has added men’s leather dress shoes by Wenzhou-based footwear and leathergoods brand Red Dragonfly to its permanent collection.

Founder and chairman of the company, Qian Jinbo, suggested that additional “excellent” shoe designs would be acquired by the museum every year moving forward, local media reported, with the museum operating as a “carrier of cultural inheritance”.

By accessioning styles by Red Dragonfly, the museum has expanded its historical and technological reach, the brand added on Weibo, a form of Chinese social media. The institution is currently responsible for around 1,200 examples of footwear created throughout China’s history.

A catwalk show and dance performance at the museum commemorated the occasion.
