Azon achieves ‘Korean-style’ non-slip outsole
Busan, South Korea-based footwear brand Azon, established in the southern port city by a local artisan with more than 35 years of shoemaking experience, has created what it is calling a “Korean-style, super non-slip outsole”.

The firm described the innovation as technically similar to Vibram’s own high-performance soles, but made from a special rubber compound developed in-house.

A thin, cross-shaped groove where the outsole makes contact with the ground provides increased grip, Azon told local media, which is “strong enough for walking or jumping without slipping, even on a 45-degree incline”. The company said that the outsoles had also been tested on a stainless-steel surface covered with engine oil, stating that their grip was found to remain satisfactory, despite the odds.

Certified as non-slip by the FITI Testing and Research Institute, Azon obtained a patent for the design and its technology two years ago, according to reports.

The shoe firm, which produces around 120,000 pairs annually, now plans to launch an outsole speciality brand within the year.
