Shoe groups bid for €25m in EU funding for circular project

29/04/2021
Mallorca-based footwear manufacturers Camper and Mascaró have presented a formal expression of interest to the Spanish government in using funds from the European Commission’s Next Generation EU programme to set up a new production model.

Next Generation EU is a recovery fund that the Commission has set up to help the 27 EU states recover from the economic impacts of covid-19. It will run until 2023 and will have total funding of €750 billion.

Mascaró and Camper want to use a proportion of Spain’s share to set up a new production system, to introduce circular-economy elements such as material recovery and measures to create shoes with greater longevity.

If their bid is successful, they will work with partners including footwear research body Inescop and consultancy FI Group. The value of the project will be €25 million.
