UK's footwear workers encouraged to apply for funding
Industry association Leather UK is encouraging footwear and leather workers to apply for funding from the Queen Elizabeth Scholarship Trust (QEST) awards, a charity dedicated to excellence in British craftsmanship.

QEST awards funding of up to £18,000 to craftspeople in a broad range of sectors, to help them pay for college courses, vocational training, apprenticeships or one-to-one training.

The charity celebrated its 30th anniversary this year and since 1990 has awarded nearly £5 million to 600 individuals working in 130 crafts.

QEST Radcliffe Trust Apprentice Adele Williamson (pictured) became the first female apprentice to work at Trickers footwear in 2016 and is in the third year of her apprenticeship. She now creates the majority of the brand’s bespoke orders.

Applications are open from 11 January until 15 February 2021.
