Vietnam’s footwear exports increased 14% in the first half of 2019 compared with the first half last year, reaching $9 billion, according to Lefaso, Vietnam’s leather, footwear and handbag association.

Phan Thi Thanh Xuan, secretary general of Lefaso, said the sector had started to see the benefits of the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP), which came into effect at the start of the year.

She estimated that almost 80% of shoes exported to Canada now have zero tariffs.
