Salvatore Ferragamo figurehead dies

Wanda Ferragamo, honourary president of luxury group Salvatore Ferragamo, died on October 19 at the age of 96, her family has announced.

She took over running of the company following the death of her husband, Ferragamo’s eponymous founder, more than 50 years ago.

Wanda Ferragamo retained an active role in the company, even after handing over chairmanship to her son Ferruccio.

Immediately after the announcement, shares in Ferragamo jumped almost 9% on speculation that the group would now be more likely to consider a buyout. The family has repeatedly dismissed speculation about a possible sale.
