Speaking at the Gallery SHOES exhibition in Düsseldorf (September 2-4), Mr Seibel explained that despite the continued growth of digitalisation and online shopping, “there is still need for a platform to touch, smell and feel shoes”.
Discussing Gallery SHOES specifically, he said it was too early to tell if it would go on to be a leading footwear event, but that the impression generated from its first three editions is “positive”.
In particular, he said the dates for the biannual exhibition have been “very well selected” and that it allows those who attend to get a “clear picture” of what to expect from footwear and fashion in the coming seasons.
For her part, Ulrike Kähler, project director of Gallery SHOES and marketing director of organiser IGEDO Company, said at the same press conference on August 3 that the third edition of the exhibition was going “really well”.
She explained that the organisers always planned to assess after three editions whether the show had been a success and then decide if it should continue. She said the show has established itself well, with over 500 brands from 20 countries exhibiting at the latest edition.
Ms Kähler added that the number of foreign exhibitors was “really striking” and that this was an aspect that could be further improved in the future. She insisted, however, that the expansion of the exhibition would be controlled so as to ensure that it continues to offer a “carefully curated” selection of products.
