Tod’s takes steps to adapt to fast fashion

The chairman of high-end footwear group Tod’s, Diego Della Valle, had said the company plans to release multiple collections through the year to engage better with its customers.

This is part of a new project it has called ‘Factory’. The name is a reference to the studio artist Andy Warhol opened in New York in the 1960s.

Mr Della Valle explained that work on this project began seven months ago. It will involve more collections during the year, as well as limited-edition collections created by guest designers.

“The business model has changed, everything is more rapid, though in some sort of way more controllable,” he said, adding that fashion groups can no longer afford to release just two traditional collections each year.

He gave no indication, however, of whether this new project will signal the end of Tod’s organising biannual runway shows.
