The twentieth UITIC Congress will take place in Porto from May 16-18.
Mr Morin, who is also chief executive of French leather and footwear research and technology CTC, said the event allows industry stakeholders, including manufacturers, distributors, designers and researchers, to discover new ideas in the sector and to garner the latest market information.
“These UITIC congresses are also an opportunity for the various decision-makers in the sector to meet every two years and build relationships,” he added.
Explaining the decision to hold the next UITIC Congress in Portugal, Mr Morin said the country has become an important country in the European footwear industry. It last hosted the event in 1996, but Mr Morin said he wanted to highlight Portugal and the “considerable progress” it has made in recent years in production, innovation and product quality.
The theme for the twentieth UITIC Congress will be ‘From Fashion to Factory’. It will highlight the growing influence of fashion on the footwear industry. The event will also discuss the major transformations the industry is undergoing, as well as the innovations being developed to deal with these changes.
