Italian leather association reveals export figures

Italy’s main tanning industry association, UNIC, has revealed that Italy’s leather sector exports reached €3.8 billion in 2016, which they describe as the highest by value in the world.

Its goods were exported to 114 countries, although it ranks fourth in terms of production volume.

The volume of leather destined to the footwear and clothing industry fell 2%, material for leather goods declined 7% but leather for the automotive sector increased 8%.

The figures were released at UNIC’s annual meeting, held at the Palazzo Mezzanotte in Milan. 

 Gianni Russo was confirmed as UNIC president for 2017-2018.
