Italian shoe start-up to launch in Japan

08/05/2017
Design Italian Shoes (DIS), a start-up that aims to offer customised shoes to online customers, has announced that it will launch its services to Japanese customers.

Italy’s embassy in Tokyo ran an event called Italian Innovation Day in 2016 and is preparing to repeat it this year. DIS took part and generated a lot of interest among Japanese e-commerce companies, through which it found what it has called “an ideal partner” for launching its services in Japan.

DIS customers use the company’s website to work out how to measure their feet and match the data to its size guide. They then choose the materials and colours they want to use from the range of leathers DIS offers, choose a last shape and soling materials and then wait four weeks for their customised shoes, handmade by Italian artisans, to arrive at their door. Customers then have a year in which to ask for adjustments if there is any problem with fitting.
