Alpargatas Argentina loses CEO amid factory closures

The CEO of the Argentinian branch of casual footwear manufacturer Alpargatas, Javier Goñi, is to step down from his position in February.

He has been in charge of the Brazilian’s groups activities in Argentina since 2008 but is leaving due to personal reasons, according to the company. His replacement has not yet been named.

Alpargatas announced earlier in January that it has been forced to close two of its factories in Argentina. The facilities in Buenos Aires and San Luis primarily manufactured shoes for the Topper, Rueda and Mizuno brands. The closures resulted in the loss of 170 jobs. It has provoked action from the Argentinian government, which is working on a strategy to find employment for these workers.
