Italian orders suffer at Moscow show

Ms Pilotti said there had been a drop of between 30% and 50% in orders, with high-end Italian products hit especially hard. She added that the decrease came as a shock to Assocal, but the drop in value of the rouble and continuing economic uncertainty meant it would have to wait longer before the footwear market in Russia improves.
She said Obuv’ Mir Koži should be rescheduled in the future to ensure it doesn’t open on a Monday and called for exhibition spaces to be reorganised to “meet buyers’ needs better”. The show is “still a very important event for our member companies,” she insisted.
Assocal will continue to invest in “concrete projects” in the CIS market (which includes Russia). Ms Pilotti appealed to Italy’s Ministry of Economic Development to support Assocal in this endeavour and suggested the country’s footwear-making regions should also contribute.
