Seven footwear companies from the Spanish region of Murcia were present at the Micam exhibition in Milan, Italy (September 3-6) as they attempt to continue strong growth from recent years.

According to data from Murcia’s economy, tourism and employment ministry, exports of shoes made in the region have increase 74% in the last five years from €50.5 million in 2010 to €57.7 million in the first half of this year.

There are now 178 footwear manufacturers in Murcia, which generate more than 2,000 jobs. This is up from the 67 companies in 2010.

France is the most important export destination for the region’s footwear, followed by Italy, the UK, Germany and the US.
