Under the name Les Journées Particulières (Special Days, or Special Work Days), the group ran similar events in 2011 and 2013, attracting around 100,000 visitors each time. The locations that were open for visits by the public over the course of a single weekend included the artisan leathergoods workshop at Asnières-sur-Seine, near Paris, where Louis Vuitton makes ‘special order’ bags, and the workshop in central Paris where footwear brand Berluti makes its bespoke shoes.
In 2016, Les Journées Particulières will run from May 20-22. In 2011, the locations it opened up were all in France. In 2013, it decided to extend the event to other European locations. This year, LVMH sites in North America will also be part of the picture.
LVMH has described Les Journées Particulières as a “tribute to the remarkable excellence of the craftsmanship at its houses, and to Europe’s unrivalled heritage of savoir-faire”. It has also said: “For France and other European countries where traditional craftsmanship has been practiced for centuries, this savoir-faire is an unparalleled asset that underpins economic success and job creation.”
