India slashes duty on leather shoes

The Indian government has announced that excise duty on shoes with leather uppers under 1,000 rupees ($16) will be cut from 12% to 6%, in a bid to boost manufacturing in the country.
A footwear manufacturer quoted by the Times of India said they will now be able to use better quality leather.
