Micam gives full backing to World Footwear Congress
An overhang from the political tensions in Russia, questions about counterfeiting and a stagnant economy in Europe have been on the agenda at Italian footwear show Micam, currently under way in Milan.
Micam president Cleto Sagripanti and Jean Pierre Renaudin, president of the CEC (European Confederation of the Footwear Industry), spoke at the international press conference about the need to support the World Footwear Congress, taking place in Mexico in mid-November. Miguel Plascencia Rojas, president of the congress organising committee, stressed how global footwear companies should not see each other as competition but rather should benefit from each other’s know-how.
This edition of Micam, running from September 1 to 3, saw 1,557 exhibitors, 617 of which are international, in 67,500 square metres of exhibition space.
It moved forward in the calendar from its traditional mid-September slot, changed its layout and introduced new segments such as the Micam Square, where WGSN-led trend seminars and conferences have been held.
“The decision to hold the exhibition earlier, a sort of revolution compared with the past, will make Micam more competitive on an international scale,” added Mr Sagripanti.
Christian Lacroix, Colmar, Missoni and Porsche Design are exhibiting for the first time.
