Inspiramais to celebrate makers and materials in July

Brazil-based footwear materials show Inspiramais will next take place between July 11 and 12 in Porto Alegre, under the theme Homo Faber, Latin for “man as maker”.

The idea is to prioritise artisan-led, manual processes and supplies, placing less emphasis on standardised production and more on the nuanced relationship between maker and material. More than 1,000 new materials are due to launch at the exhibition.

Inspiramais organisers include local leathergoods and footwear body Assintecal, the Centre for the Brazilian Tanning Industry (CICB) and national trade and investment promotion agency ApexBrasil. Along with delegates from major manufacturers in Mexico and Colombia, such as Cueros Vélez, Flexi, Mario Hernandez, Michel Domit and Bosi, they collectively produce more than 480,000 pairs of shoes every year. Approximately 150 exhibitors are set to take part in total.

“Both Colombia and Mexico are among the main destinations for Brazilian components abroad,” commented Assintecal's international market manager, Luiz Ribas Júnior.

Component exports to Mexico reached $8.16 million, up 15% year on year, in 2022, he said. Shipments to Colombia raised $7.83 million, meanwhile, representing a 25% rise.
