Ecco and Spinnova to build Respin factory

01/03/2023

Finnish biomaterials company Spinnova has reported full-year revenues of almost €24.3 million for 2022, an increase of more than 300% year on year.

On releasing the figures, the company said its Respin project is moving forward. Spinnova launched Respin in 2021 as a joint venture with Ecco Leather and wet blue, crust and split supplier KT Trading. Respin involves taking fibre from leather waste to spin yarn that can then be woven or knitted.

Spinnova has now said: “Following the success of pilot trials, Spinnova and Ecco have agreed to proceed towards commercialising the product and to go ahead with a feasibility study for the first commercial Respin factory.”

Their plan is to locate the first Respin factory in the Netherlands, the home of Ecco Leather and its principal tannery.
