Chinese investment in Cambodia soars as trade agreements begin

15/03/2022

Footwear production in Cambodia is one of the sectors to benefit from an increase in investment there from Chinese companies.

A free trade agreement between the two countries came into effect at the start of this, as did the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) trade deal, which has 15 signatories, including Cambodia and China.

Ahead of these agreements, Chinese investors put $2.3 billion into businesses in Cambodia, including footwear producers in 2021. This represents an increase of 67% compared to the previous year.
