Fuzhou shoe firms take advantage of RCEP

According to reports from within the country, customs officials from the Chinese city of Fuzhou, the capital of Fujian province, have revealed the impact of the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) on exports of locally made footwear.

The trade agreement came into force on January 1. In the first three months since its implementation, more than 910 RCEP certificates of origin were issued.

Those familiar with the matter said that the majority of these documents, which legally allow exports to benefit from member countries’ preferential tariffs, have been obtained by companies shipping footwear, chemicals and agricultural products elsewhere within the region.

As footwearbiz reported last year, businesses across Fujian are especially keen to take advantage of Japanese tariff reductions under the RCEP, local media said.
