Investment pays off for ISA TanTec with LWG gold
Tannery group ISA TanTec is celebrating a full house of Leather Working Group (LWG) gold-rated facilities, after its US-based Mississippi TanTec (MTL) achieved the award.
The group said the MTL team improved safety and optimised the use of resources, such as installing timers throughout the facility to help reduce energy consumption.
Uwe Hutzler, ISA TanTec’s CEO, said: “We did not slow down on investing in sustainable projects even during the toughest time of the Covid-19 outbreak. We constantly improve the mechanism at all our tanneries to minimise the environmental impact from the leather manufacturing process, and we are thrilled to see our efforts paid off.”
The group also operates two tanneries in Vietnam and one in China; all four are rated as LWG gold. The group is known for its LITE (Low Impact To the Environment) manufacturing systems, and recent investments include a responsible sourcing programme, Greener Pastures, and the creation of a sustainable materials division.
