ISA TanTec creates mushroom-based material

27/05/2022
Tannery group ISA TanTec has launched a bio-based footwear material that it describes as its solution to petro-based synthetics.

HydroLite is made of repurposed mushrooms, natural polymers and non-woven cellulosic fibres.

It is made in smooth, milled and embossed versions, is available in 30 colours and is biodegradable.

Group founder Thomas Schneider told sister publication World Leather its decision to produce plant-based alternative materials alongside leather is because it wants to replace plastic, not leather.
