US footwear and clothing associations have jointly requested that the government “address the root causes of forced labour and human trafficking” in the supply chains.
The American Apparel & Footwear Association – whose members include Capri, Camuto, Brooks Running and Asics America – has joined Footwear Distributors & Retailers of America, the US Fashion Industry Association and others in an appeal to Secretary Anthony Blinken. They said: “US businesses work diligently to ensure that raw materials, inputs and finished goods in our supply chains are not made with forced labour. These efforts are more effective when supported and reinforced by high-level US government engagement with other governments and international organizations. These efforts are further re-inforced when governments and business work together in a true partnership aligned in the same goals – to end the scourge of forced labour in global supply chains.”
The associations praised the work of the International Labour Organisation and the Global Fund to End Modern Slavery.
“Forced labour and human trafficking are unacceptable and the US business community looks to continue to work closely with the government, the international community and a broad array of stakeholders to make progress on this critical issue,” they added
