Bio-based material to help ambitious Crocs deliver targets

Footwear brand Crocs will introduce a bio-based Croslite material into its lines as part of as part of a commitment to becoming a "net zero" brand by 2030, with product on shelves early next year.

The Ecolibrium Technology, from material science group Dow, uses waste and byproducts for the bio-based feedstock.

This reduces the carbon footprint and enables recycling at the end of life, according to the group.

The company is targeting a 50% reduction in its carbon footprint per pair by 2030.

Crocs CEO Andrew Rees said: “We're taking a bold step to create lower carbon footprint footwear while making it inherently simple for our partners and consumers to join us on our journey to net zero."

The US company is expecting annual growth of around 17% to reach $5 billion in sales by 2026.

Mr Rees added: “Four key drivers underpin this growth – growing digital sales, gaining market share in sandals, capturing growth in Asia and innovating in product and marketing.  With digital remaining a top priority, we expect at least 50% of total revenues to be derived from digital channels by the end of 2026.”
