Steve Madden in significant move out of China
US-based brand Steve Madden, particularly known for its footwear designs, recently revealed significant changes to its women’s footwear supply chain during a second-quarter earnings call.
The company’s chairman and chief executive, Ed Rosenfeld, said that the brand had moved “about half” of its women’s range production to Brazil and Mexico from China for the autumn-winter 2021 season.
Mr Rosenfeld said that the move had helped mitigate some of the lead-time slippage risk regarding recent port congestion in China, but that supply chain disruptions worldwide remained a “significant challenge”.
Covid-19 outbreaks across Brazil and Mexico’s reliance on China-made components meant that the transition had not been untroubled, however, with delays still resulting.
