Nike Hyperdunks designed for President Obama offered at Sotheby’s
In honour of Presidents’ Day weekend, Sotheby’s will offer a pair of Nike basketball shoes designed in 2009 for former US President Barack Obama for $25,000 (or more) at 4.44pm (President Obama was the country’s 44th President) on Friday, February 12.
According to Sotheby’s, the size 12.5 Hyperdunks are one of only two pairs in existence.
“One of just two pairs made by Nike in celebration of Mr Obama, the sneakers feature incredible details, including the Seal of the President of the United States, the number ‘44’ embroidered on each sneaker and ‘1776’ written on the insoles,” Sotheby’s director of e-commerce development, Brahm Wachter, described.
The shoes are currently on view at the auction house’s York Avenue, New York City showroom and will also appear on its new Buy Now website, which features works of art, fashion, design, antiques, timepieces and other collectibles.
