Deckers targets 100% LWG leather by 2022
Footwear group Deckers Brands has committed to sourcing all of its leather from Leather Working Group-rated tanneries by 2022, up from the current 97%.

It has also said it will use more certified responsible and sustainable materials – which it classes as recycled, renewable, regenerated and natural - and has nearly finished a lifecycle assessment of all its raw materials.

The owner of brands including Ugg and Teva has published a corporate responsibility and sustainability report in which it outlines progress.

In it, it says more than 97% of the wool used by the group is repurposed wool harvested from its twinface sheepskin product.

It has also improved 33,000 supply chain worker livelihoods, it claims, through its partnership with Business for Social Responsibility (BSR) HERproject, and aims to increase this to 100,000 women by 2027.

Deckers CEO Dave Powers said: "These are critical times when we must all play our part in delivering upon the United Nations Global Compact Sustainable Development Goals and the vision outlined in Paris Agreement to create a  future that is sustainable and resilient.

We recognize that sustainability is a journey and we are committed to doing our part to create change for our employees, our communities, and our planet."
