Strong third-quarter results for Hermès in leathergoods and internationally

Results for third quarter sales by luxury leather goods brand Hermès reflect a strong performance — up 18% overall — with leather goods and saddlery up 12% and growth in all geographic areas. Sales in the group’s stores continues the upward trend seen over the first six months of the year.

Broken down by region, Asia excluding Japan was up 19% at the end of September, despite the unrest in Hong Kong; Japan rose 12%. America was up 10%, with a particularly good performance in the US. France grew by 6%, and the rest of Europe was up 9%.

"Despite an uncertain international environment,” said Axel Dumas, executive chairman of Hermès, “Hermès is experiencing exceptional sales growth over the first nine months reflecting our creative drive, excellent know-how and customers’ adhesion.” He added that the company will continue creating jobs in France and reinforcing regional anchoring.

The company attributed the 12% growth in leather goods and saddlery in part to the strength of the Hermès’ classics and newcomers like the Twins bag (pictured). Leather goods production capacities will continue to increase, with a new leather workshop planned for the Ardennes region by 2022, Guyenne and Montereau workshops scheduled for completion by 2020, and the Louviers workshop by 2021.
