Fashion students learn of sole leather’s benefits

An Italian consortium that represents sole leather tanners was one of the keynote speakers at a seminar at the University of Rome, part of a series organised by trade fair Lineapelle.

Cuoio di Toscana vegetable tanned leather is based on the natural tannins from chestnut, mimosa and quebracho wood, and the group was set up to promote its qualities.

A study by the University of Milan and by Wellmicro, a spin-off of the University of Bologna, demonstrated the leather’s antibacterial properties and fashion and design students also learnt of the material’s hardwearing qualities and its sustainable production.

The companies that make up the Cuoio di Toscana brand are Bonistalli & Stefanelli, Conciario Group, CMC International, Conceria Gi-Elle-Emme, Cuoificio Otello, Lamonti Cuoio, Conceria 3S and Volpi Concerie.
