End of the road for Momad Shoes exhibition?
22/08/2018
The exhibition took place for the fifth time under the separate guise of Momad Shoes in Madrid on March 2-4. It has previously run as Modacalzado and then as one part of the larger Momad fashion exhibition before running on its own with different dates. The last edition welcomed just 200 exhibitors, a substantial decrease on the 520 that attended in March 2017.
Now, FICE is calling on organiser Ifema to launch a new national footwear show, according to reports in the Spanish media. “We have to offer an event that is more worthwhile for brands,” José Monzonís, FICE president, was quoted as saying.
The organisation has reportedly taken an inspiration from the Gallery SHOES exhibition in Dusseldorf, which was launched in 2017 following the demise of established footwear show GDS. It is much smaller than its predecessor and the organisers have attempted to adopt a different philosophy to traditional footwear exhibitions.
No date has yet been confirmed for this proposed new exhibition, but the wheels are already in motion to launch it, which would confirm the end for Momad Shoes after its short but difficult existence.
