The chief executive of sportswear manufacturer adidas, Kasper Rorsted, has told US media that the company sold one million pairs of shoes made from recovered ocean plastic in 2017.

The shoes are made as part of its partnership with ocean conservation organisation Parley for the Oceans.

In 2017, adidas released three new versions of its UltraBoost shoe featuring ocean plastic. Each pair reuses an average of 11 plastic bottles in the upper.

At the end of 2016, adidas said its target for 2017 was to release one million pairs of shoes made from recycled ocean waste.
