French leather industry appeals to young people
France’s main industry association, the Conseil National du Cuir (CNC), will take part in an important careers fair in Paris as it seeks to encourage more young people to explore careers in the leather industry.

The event, known as ‘l’Aventure des Métiers’, takes place from November 17-19 and welcomes companies and organisations from a variety of industries. They attend in order to showcase the different opportunities that are available for young people in their respective industries.

The CNC’s stand at the event will feature demonstrations from four important Paris schools, including Les Compagnons du Devoir, an organisation with a long history of passing on artisanal skills and techniques in France. These demonstrations will showcase some of the artisanal skills that are required in the manufacturing of leathergoods and shoes.

The organisation is also launching a new tool to help young people learn about the different careers available in the leather industry and about the institutions that offer training for those interested in following this path. The tool, which the CNC has called ‘Guide des Métiers du Cuir’ (‘Guide to a career in leather’), will be available in print and through a new smartphone application. More information can be found here.

The president of the CNC, Frank Boehly, has said ‘L’Aventure des Métiers’ is the organisation’s best opportunity to meet face-to-face with young people. He added that the objective was to offer as much information as possible about the current options available to them in the leather industry.

According to Mr Boehly, the French leather industry’s recent overseas success and its “exceptional savoir-faire” mean it offers “great professional opportunities” for young French people.
