Ivanka Trump to face questions in shoe design lawsuit

Ivanka Trump, daughter of US President Donald Trump, has been ordered to answer questions in a lawsuit brought against her fashion company by Italian luxury shoe brand Aquazzura.

Aquazzura filed the case in June 2016, alleging that Ms Trump’s brand copied a number of its designs, most notably the “Wild Things” shoe. It claims Ms Trump’s “Hettie” shoe design is too similar to be a coincidence.

Ms Trump’s lawyers have said in court documents that Aquazzura’s designs are not distinctive enough to prove they have been copied and claimed she “does not possess any unique information” about her company’s shoe designs.

A US district judge ruled that Ms Trump was important to the case due to her position as a senior executive at the company. She also said that public statements Ms Trump had made about her “active and comprehensive brand management” suggest that the shoe designs in questions would not have been released without her approval.
