Most of the senior figures in the French leather industry will travel to Limoges on November 25 to take part in an event hosted by high-end footwear manufacturer JM Weston.

The brand’s chief executive, Thierry Oriez, will offer all participants a guided tour of the footwear factory at the start of the day.

Afterwards, Frank Boehly, president main industry associationm, the Conseil National du Cuir, Claude-Eric Paquin, president of the French Footwear Association, Arnaud Haefelin, president of national leathergoods federation the Fédération Française de la Maroquinerie, Sophie Hivert, from the tanning industry federation and Yves Morin, chief executive of research and testing body CTC, will take part in a roundtable discussion.

This roundtable event will examine questions on the skills that the leather and footwear industries require today, how these skills can be preserved and handed on to new generations of artisans, and on how the sector can continue to innovate.

Going some way towards answering these questions before the event, Frank Boehly said: “The success of the leather sector in France is down to preserving and passing on savoir-faire at the same time as bringing in constant innovation, and JM Weston is a perfect example of this.”
