DSW offers 3D-printed shoes in selected stores

US footwear retailer DSW has installed pop-up shops in two of its flagship stores offering customised 3D-printed shoes.

The Pop-up shops are a collaboration with 3D printing technology startup Feetz, in which DSW invested in June. They will be in DSW’s stores on 34th Street in New York and in Union Square, San Francisco. Customers will be able to customise a unique pair of shoes and then watch as the 3D printers start to create their product.

“DSW is excited to be the first to bring Feetz’s innovative technology to our customers through this pop-up experience,” said Simon Nankervis, DSW’s chief commercial officer. “We believe [this] has the potential to disrupt the footwear industry as we know it today.”

Feetz uses a mobile foot scanner to capture 5,000 data points and 22 dimensions of the foot. This allows it to produce a customised, 3D-printed shoe in less than two weeks.
