Shoe factory closures in Putian

28/01/2016

Around 60 shoe manufacturers in the Chinese city of Putian have either gone out of business in recent months or have moved production to other Asian countries, according to a report on the China Leather Industry Association website.

It follows a trend of rising wages making shoemaking uncompetitive in some areas of China –  footwear giant Stella recently announced the closure of its Dongguan factory with the loss of 10,000 jobs, according to local reports.
