Germans appreciate high-end shoes, says Assocal

20/05/2015

Italian footwear manufacturers association Assocalzaturifici has signed a five year agreement for Munich-based trade show Moda Made In Italy to cement contracts in Germany.

It said the German market is showing “signs of difficulty”, despite growth in the past two years.

Exporters have been helped by the rising average value of shoes, although volumes have declined.

Between January and November 2014, Italy exported 30.2 million pairs of shoes to Germany, worth €865 million. The average price rose 7.1%, which Assocal says shows high-end shoes are “still very much appreciated on the German market”.

At the most recent edition of the trade fair, in March, 325 brands exhibited their fall/winter 2016 collections compared with 310 in March 2014, and visitor numbers rose to 1341.

The next edition will take place between September 13 and 15.
