Stahl highlights sustainable coatings with footwear designs at Lineapelle
Footwear students from Dutch college SLEM have created shoes using Stahl’s new polyurethane coatings for Lineapelle, a leather show under way in Milan.

The chemical company provides several scholarships to SLEM for the Master of Footwear Innovation course.

Stahl’s Market Manager Vasco da Silva said: “Improving sustainability in the leather and synthetics industry is one of our top priorities. We believe that awareness should already be created during study.”

Students worked within three concepts: casual shoes, working shoes inspired by street workers in China and high heels.

Nicoline van Enter, creative director of SLEM, said: “Visitors of Stahl’s booth at Lineapelle will find a collection of jaw dropping high heels made with waterproof lace (pictured) that will make anyone want to get married or plan a romantic evening. That is only one of the concepts!”

Stahl’s additions are the 100% water-based STAHL EVO topcoat and the DMF(A)-free EVO base. The coatings do not contain any restricted substances and reduce water and energy usage during the production process, says the company.
