New Amsterdam site for SLEM

Dutch design school SLEM is to open a new footwear promotion centre in Amsterdam. Its headquarters will continue to be in Waalwijk, but it will now have a new space close to the centre of Amsterdam with a full range of footwear machinery.

SLEM said it would use the Amsterdam workshop to demonstrate the courses it offers at Waalwijk, focused on trend forecasting, shoe design, technology and business. However, it said it would also use the new site as a base for teaching some of its trends forecasting courses.

An open day at the new site will take place on May 9.

Another of the ideas it will put into practice is to rent out its new studio in Amsterdam to make it an open workspace for designers to rent for hours, days or weeks. SLEM said on announcing the idea that it believed the opportunity to have access to advanced footwear machinery would prove attractive to designers.
