Portland-based footwear design academy Pensole is to open its Future of Footwear competition showcase open to the public on August 3.

Visitors will be able to view the students' final presentations at the school, which is housed in the Old Town district of Portland.

The competition was organised with footwear trade show FN Platform.

Pensole picked 20 designers from more than 1,000 applicants, each of whom has spent the past four weeks creating new footwear concepts in five different categories: athletic, dress, kids, lifestyle, and skateboarding.

Two semi-finalists from each product category will be chosen to head to Las Vegas for the FN Platform trade show, which runs August 21-23.
